easter hols
For the Easter break we went to visit the Peak District, meeting up with my parents, brother and sister-in-law on the way. We stayed in a converted farmhouse some way up a hill rather than in the valley like most of the villages, and it was quite scary driving my little car up the steep roads.

Our first day was mostly taken up with getting there, but we had time for a walk near the farmhouse in the afternoon, and in the evening lazed in front of Doctor Who and Harry Potter.

On Easter Sunday we went to visit Chatsworth house, famous as the model for Pemberly from 'Pride and Prejudice'. Both the house and its grounds were impressive and grand. It was very busy though, as expected. In the afternoon we went out for a walk from a village called Birchover, to some rocky outcrops called Robin Hood's Stride which we enjoyed clambering around, and a stone circle which [info]theora was interested in. In the evening sister-in-law made us a nice roast dinner, and we watched the 'Balderdash and Piffle' special.

On Monday we went out for a walk along the apparently popular Lathkil Dale, followed by lunch in the Lathkil Hotel (chosen from my Good Beer Guide). Then it was off to Bakewell for an original Bakewell pudding for tea. Also very busy with tourists so it was kind of hard work wandering around. In the evening we played Trivial Pursuit 20th anniversary, which [info]theora and I won! Brother and sister-in-law were only one cheese behind though.

For our last day we visited Caudwell's Mill, which was near where we were staying. We were disappointed to find out that the flour on sale wasn't actually milled there, but bought a few bags anyway.

On the way home we stopped off at Denby Pottery, and were able to buy a few things we wanted to complete the set we were given as wedding gifts, so that was handy. We also treated ourselves with a visit to the famous Watford Gap services ;-)
